By varying your training load, repetition and rest time, an athlete may be building up greater strength, mass, endurance or power. Regardless of the goal, basic strength training is essential to injury prevention (along with correct movement patterns and muscle activation), hence having a good foundational knowledge of strength training is critical for any athlete.
